The method of Corbino for measuring the specific heat of metallic filaments is extended to the case where the sample undergoes internal transformations. The resistance oscillations of the ac heated filament are described in terms of a frequency dependent heat capacity and temperature coefficient of resistivity. The theory is applied to vacancy relaxation in metals where the method yields an equilibrium determination of vacancy concentrations and lifetimes. The experimental results of Kraftmakher on the high temperature heat capacity of metals are reinterpreted in light of the present theory.
