The influence of the relaxation time on the position of the minimum of Δ R / R in the absence of an applied field, or on the position of its successive extrema in the presence of a magnetic field is shown. In this first article we neglect the role of excitons. and consider that in the neighbourhood of a critical point the variation of the matrix element due to the stress is negligible in comparison with the energy band displacements, so thatThe curves were calculated for germanium and compared with some of the results found experimentally.
