A brief theoretical discussion is given of possible ionic and electronic displacement currents associated with the random walk annealing of Br − interstitials in KBr. Experimentally we have observed displacement current peaks during isochronal annealing at 22.0, 24, and 27°K subsequent to cobalt gamma irradiation at 10°K. Only the lowest temperature peak appears to be ascribable to an ionic current due to interstitial‐vacancy recombination. It is concluded that less than 1% of the Br − interstitials in the irradiated crystals were free to participate in a random walk annihilation process.
