In a foregoing paper [1] the crystal field potential of an octahedral site in a spinel lattice was calculated using the point charge model and considering the ten nearest environments. Analogous to these calculations the crystal field potential of a tetrahedral site in the lattice of a normal spinel is calculated. As an example for application the spectrum of Co 2+ ions in a diamagnetic spinel is considered, taking into account also the influence of a magnetic field, and compared with experimental data.
