New experimental data [12] have indicated that CuCl 2 · 2H 2 O may be a four sublattice canted antiferromagnet in accordance with Moriya's predictions [17]. However, the data obtained are too few and too weak to confirm Moriya's model. We show by using group theoretical arguments that CuCl 2 · 2 H 2 O has in fact a canted structure with the spins canting in the x‐z plane.
