The magnetic susceptibility of zirconium monocarbide has been studied as a function of temperature and concentration in the homogeneity region 0.58 ≦ x ≦ 1.0 and at temperatures from 20 to 1300 °K. It is shown that the temperature dependence χ( T ) of all the samples may be described by the equations\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ \chi = \left\{ {\begin{array}{*{20}c} {{\rm const}} & {{\rm at}} & {T < 290^0 {\rm K,}} \\ {\chi _0 + \alpha \,T} & {{\rm at}} & {T > 290^0 {\rm K}{\rm .}} \\ \end{array}} \right. $$\end{document}The obtained results are discussed in terms of concepts available on the electronic structure of the cubic carbides of the group IVa and Va transition metals. A “flat” minimum was found in the curve N(E) lying near stoichiometric composition of the monocarbides.
