Surface‐induced cross glide of screw dislocations can be well investigated electron‐microscopically with help of the gold decoration technique. The cross slip distances observed agree well with values obtained by the line tension concept. Surface‐induced cross glide rarely occurs during the dislocation motion. Therefore, the dislocation multiplication is surely not initiated by the surface‐induced cross slip.
