A model is proposed in which the decisive influence on magnetization ripple is exerted by demagnetizing fields produced by surface charges due to the roughness of the surface of the thin film. The model predicts periodical fluctuations of the magnetization vector around the mean magnetization direction. The expressions obtained for the ripple amplitude and periodicity are wherea is the effective value of the surface roughness and t the thickness of the film. The theoretical results are in agreement with the experimental data of other authors.
