An investigation has been made into the degree of deviation ( s g ) from the Bragg conditions required to make dislocations (of Burgers vector b ) effectively invisible for a variety of diffracting vectors ( g ) when the condition g ± b = ± 1 obtains. It is found that these values of s g decrease as the magnitude of g increases, thus making confusion of the g · b = = ± 1 and g · b = 0 cases more likely for large values of g .
