An ESR study was made of defects produced by γ‐irradiation in hydrazonium sulphate (N 2 H 6 SO 4 and N 2 D 6 SO 4 ). The analysis of the experimental data shows that N 2 H 5 +and N 2 D 5 +defects are formed. The mechanism of the appearance of these defects is a breakage of N–H and N–D bonds, respectively. Some remarks about the character of the singly occupied orbital are made.
