A formula is obtained for the transverse dielectric constant ϵ t (ω, k ) in the region of exciton transition which appears to be correct for an arbitrary intensity of the polariton—phonon coupling. The renormalization of polaritons caused by this coupling and the influence of the renormalization on the damping constant of ϵ t (ω, k ) are examined.
