The influence of electric fields on the splitting of the 6 S 5/2 Mn ++ ground state is investigated in NaCl on two centres with charge compensating cation vancancy. The change of the ground state splitting is described by Σ R i j k S i S j F k . The tensor components R i j k are determined. Electric‐field‐induced orientation effects of the dipole moment of the centre with n.n. cation vacancy enable us to determine the signs of the tensor components R i j k .
