Specimens of UO 2 and U 4 O 9 have been observed by transmission electron microscopy at electron energies of 100, 500, and 1000 kV. Approximate values of the absorption parameters μ 0 and t g /τ g for UO 2 have been deduced from bright field pictures of crystal wedges in two beam cases with s > 0. The results are compared with data of other substances given in the literature. The stability of the oxygen sublattice in UO 2 and U 4 O 9 with respect to 1 MeV electrons is discussed.
