The electron–phonon interaction in high electric fields is investigated. The calculation of the electron lifetime shows that Wannier–Stark levels may exist. It is furthermore shown that there is a field dependent phonon production. It can possibly be measured by Raman scattering and serve to demonstrate the existence of the Wannier–Stark levels.
