Beta‐excitation of CdS crystals with a majority blocking cathode and an ohmic anode gives rise to charge pulses in an integrating network. The analysis of the pulses allows to evaluate effective mobilities and lifetimes of the carriers and the electron—hole pair production energy. The values obtained are resonable and in agreement with those found by other authors, but the measured effective lifetimes are not identical with the high lifetimes of majority carriers typical for CdS in usual photoconductivity measurements. Care had to be taken to avoid space charge accumulation.
