We have applied the pseudopotential approach for a calculation of the work function for simple metals. The alkali metals, magnesium, and aluminium are treated quantitatively, using a model‐pseudopotential determined from the measured phonon dispersions or the elastic constants. Our results indicate that the correlation energy contributes significantly to the work‐function. Generally, good agreement is achieved.
