A study has been made of an internal friction peak which occurs due to the precipitation of the γ′ phase from supersaturated AlAg alloys. From the known crystallographic relations and using electron transmission observation from the literature on the morphology of the precipitates, it is shown that the peak is caused by the diffusion controlled relaxation of partial dislocations surrounding the precipitates.
