An expression for the electronic polarizability of ions in ideal alkali halides is obtained. For this purpose a second order correction of the perturbation theory to the energy of the crystal, placed in an external electric field, is used. As a perturbation the interaction of ions in the crystal and the interaction of the crystal with the external macroscopic electric field are taken simultaneously. The additivity rule for the electronic polarizability of the ideal crystal and for the polarization energy of the non‐ideal crystal is confirmed. The difference between the value of the electronic polarizability of the ion in a crystal and that of the free ion is qualitatively correct.
