Short‐circuiting of the Dember voltage affects the PEM effect. This is shown by simple phenomenological considerations. Under certain conditions, especially when the recombination due to the contact surfaces is not too strong, the application of Dember short circuits may increase the PEM effect. This is demonstrated by calculated values for intrinsic samples of InSb at room temperature.
