The work considers the problem of the kinematic interaction of elementary excitations in the quantum theory of magnetism. In order to avoid the appearance of so‐called non‐physical states, a generalization of the Holstein‐Primakoff representation is suggested. It is shown that in calculating dynamic characteristics of magnon systems the Holstein‐Primakoff representation can be applied consistently only up to terms of the order 2 S , and not up to terms of the order 2 S +1, as it is tacitly assumed. In addition, a Pauli representation of spin operators for spins S = 1 and S = 3/2 is given.
