The optical absorption of K 2 CoF 4 has been measured and compared with that of KCoF 3 . The observed bands are assigned to transitions from the ground state to various excited levels of Co 2+ in O h symmetry and the band positions are fairly well fitted with B = 890 cm −1 , Dq 840 cm −1 , and C = 4.4 B .
