The effect of electron–hole interaction (excitonic effects) on the electro‐absorption in semiconductors is investigated. The effective time‐dependent Schrödinger equation of the problem is solved exactly for x → 0. Explicit expressions for the shape of the exciton lines in the electric field are given. The field‐induced change of the interband absorption is discussed in the limiting cases of weak and strong electron‐hole interaction.
