The exact solutions to the “valence‐electron model Hamiltonian” are considered. This model was suggested in recent articles by Wang. It is shown that for a certain range of C in the potential term – C r −2 , solutions to the problem exist which are formally identical to the usual solutions for the hydrogen atom problem. It is also seen that for a wide range of the parameter C , there exist no solutions for which the Hamiltonian is Hermitian. The implications of this are discussed, and uses of this model considered.
