The energy of an electronic state of a complex system, consisting of a number of interacting subsystems, is considered. The interaction of these subsystems is taken as a perturbation and the calculation of the adiabatic potential uses the iterative method of perturbation theory for nonorthogonal functions. The second order correction to the energy is determined.
