Results are presented of ESR experiments and optical measurements on F‐centers in additively colored SrF 2 crystals. The hyperfine interactions between the unpaired electron and the surrounding nuclei are discussed and compared with the results obtained for F‐centers in CaF 2 and BaF 2 . Combined results of ESR experiments, optical measurements, and bleaching experiments indicate that the absorption band at 4490 Å arises from an electron trapped in an F − vacancy. It appears that there is no correlation between the absorption bands at 4490 and 6350 Å.
