The experimental results of Maxfield and McLean for the variation of penetration depth λ L ( T ) with temperature for niobium cannot be explained in terms of the usual BCS model of superconductivity. It is shown that better agreement can be obtained on the basis of the twoband model, proposed by Suhl, Matthias and Walker, for transition element superconductors.
