The lattice specific heats of thallium and yttrium are calculated using the electron gas model of Gupta and Dayal for hexagonal metals. The interactions are restricted to fourth neighbours. The force constants are determined from experimental values of the elastic constants. The θ‐ T curves calculated from the computed specific heats show a fairly satisfactory agreement with the experimental values, i.e. the difference is not greater than 3% for thallium and 6% for yttrium.
