A direct method is presented for finding the distribution of dislocations in uniformly stacked arrays in an anisotropic medium. A simple procedure for evaluating the stress field is given. The analytic technique is applied to a special case of an infinite sequence of identical double‐ended pile‐ups stacked one above the other. In this case, the number of dislocations in each of the pile‐ups is found to be less than that in an isolated pile‐up and decreases continuously as the separation between pile‐ups decreases. The stress concentration around the tips of each array behaves in a similar manner. It is shown that the system is elastically equivalent to a vertical array of parallel shear cracks.
