A discussion is given of the EPR spectra of Mn 2+ in LiF single crystals doped with MnF 2 both in the melt, and by diffusion. There are two complexes, having orthorhombic and axial symmetry respectively. An explanation is given of the super‐hyperfine structure. It is shown that diffusion of Mn 2+ ions into LiF single crystals can occur, and that the behaviour of such diffused ions is largely similar to that of ions incorporated into the crystal in the melt.
