The establishment of short‐range order in the alloys AuAg (50,50) and CuAl (85,15) is investigated by electrical resistivity measurements on quenched wires. The kinetics of the process can be described by two equations based on the following assumptions: 1. The rate of ordering is proportional to the deviation from equilibrium order and to the number of vacancies. 2. The quenched‐in vancancies disappear by first order kinetics. 3. The activation energy Q of vacancy migration depends on the degree of order. During ordering Q appears to increase by a few hundredths of an eV in both alloys.
