The critical field H c2 of superconducting vanadium is determined from critical current measurements on cold‐rolled and annealed foils and on a single crystal. The temperature dependence is found to be stronger than predicted by theory. The critical field is found to be anisotropic in the single crystal. Values of χ 1 = H c2 / H c χ2 are determined which, by ecxtrapolation to zero resistivity, show that pure vanadium is a type II superconductor with χ 1 comparable to that for pure niobium.
