The temperature variation of the Grüneisen parameter γ for copper is calculated from the observed pressure derivatives of the elastic constants using the electron gas model proposed by one of the present authors. Microscopic Grüneisen parameters, γ q,i , are calculated as a function of the wave number q along the six directions [100], [110], [111], [210], [211], and [221] in reciprocal space and are averaged by a modification of Houston's spherical six‐term integration method. The calculated value of γ is found to be in good agreement with the experimental values of Rubin et al.
