The electrical conductivity σ and Hall coefficient R H are measured over the range 250 to 400 °K on pellets of U 3 O 8 sintered for different periods up to 120 h at 900 °C. The sintering results in a progressive decrease of the O/U ratio from 2.666 to 2.63 accompanied by an increase in the density from 5.62 (“green” density) to 8.08 g/cm 3 . The values of the electrical conductivity are corrected for porosity. With decreasing O/U ratio, the conductivity and Hall mobility increase, while the conductivity activation energy decreases. The results for the highly sintered (96.5% of theoretical density) material of composition UO 2.63 are interpreted on the basis of the hopping of small polarons.
