The temperature dependence of the oblique‐incidence anisotropy of approximately non‐magnetostrictive permalloy films evaporated onto unheated substrates is investigated. Characteristic experimental results are as follows: 1. For isothermal annealing the time dependence of the constant of uniaxial anisotropy, K u , is logarithmic. 2. During annealing K u changes its sign. 3. The reversible changes of K u as a function of temperature correspond to that of M 2 8 ( M s saturation magnetization). A tentative explanation of the results is given on the basis of known structural properties of oblique‐incidence films.
