EPR spectra of diatomic halogen centers in alkali halides are investigated. Centers of the type FBr − , FJ − , and CIJ − are identified. The constants of the spin Hamiltonian are derived from the FBr‐ spectra by a perturbation calculation up to fourth order. By studying the photochemical properties of centers of the type X   2 −and XY − information regarding the formation mechanismus of the FCl − and FBr − centers are obtained.
