A general expression is derived for the transition radiation from a foil consisting of three different layers with arbitrary dielectric constants and thicknesses. This expression is used to calculate transition radiation from oxide‐covered Al foils. The results are compared with the experimental data of Herickhoff et al. [7]. Almost perfect agreement between theory and experiment can be achieved if the oxide layers are taken into account.
