The equation of motion for the one‐electron density matrix of an electron gas which interacts with a phonon field is considered for non‐zero temperatures. It is shown that the shifting of the plasma frequency is due, besides the known induced random‐phase‐approximation term, to a second term produced by the thermal equilibrium of the phonons. This second term is discussed and the corresponding dispersion relation for the plasma frequency is obtained for low and high temperatures.
