The excitation spectra of M‐luminescence is investigated in the spectral range of F‐band absorption, as a function of the concentration of both the centres. Since no interaction between the F‐ and M‐centres is found, it is concluded that in NaF, as in other alkali halides, a second M‐absorption band is hidden by the F‐band. Moreover, an ageing effect, observed under X‐irradiation, is studied by measurements on M‐emission and ‐absorption. The results show that the growth of M‐centres under irradiation is aided by a stable centre which takes part in the dynamic equilibrium between the F‐ and M‐centres.
