The specific heats of copper and gold are calculated by using Krebs' model. For copper the theoretical and experimental Θ – T curves almost coincide if the screening parameter λ is taken from plasma theory. The Θ – T curve for gold, calculated with this parameter, is however about 5% lower than the experimental curve. For the latter case, the discrepancy is removed if the screening parameter is taken from the theory of Thomas and Fermi. It is therefore suggested that the screening parameter depends on the ionic radii.
