It is shown that the apparent power law relationships between F‐ and F‐aggregate‐centers are dependent on the volume distribution of centers, and the direction of optical measurement through the crystal volume. Optical measurements of X‐ray irradiated NaCl at room temperature indicates that a microscopic quadratic dependence between F‐ and M‐centers is obscured and appears linear when viewed along the direction through a coloration gradient produced by soft X‐rays.
