For a continuous distribution of moving dislocations, differential equations are derived which describe the total displacement field and the elastic distortion. These equations are based on the linear theory of elasticity and can be solved by the use of Green's dyades. The Lagrange function for a moving dislocation is given, so that by application of the principle of least action the equation of motion can be obtained for the propagation of plastic distortion. By a four‐dimensional formulation of the problem, all relations for the dislocation dynamics obtain a formal similarity to the known relations of the dislocation statics.
