The effect of heat treatment on quench‐hardened sodium chloride crystals is studied. An age‐hardening effect is described, analogous to that found for metals. The measured activation energy for this process is comparable with the migration energy of a positiveion vacancy in NaCl. A tentative explanation for the observed phenomena is given.
