A theoretical study is made of the Auger cascades which follow the capture of electrons by Co 57 nuclei, taking into account the Coster‐Kronig transition. The mean lifetime of trivalent Fe 57 ions located at Co sites in CoO is calculated using the experimental ratio of the concentrations of bivalent and trivalent Fe 57 ions.
