A series of novel yellowish‐green‐emitting K 1+ x Ba 1−2 x Tb x BP 2 O 8 (0.02 ≤  x  ≤ 0.15) phosphors were first synthesized by a high‐temperature solid‐state reaction method, and their phase purity as well as photoluminescence properties were investigated by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and fluorescence spectroscopy (FS) measurements, respectively. The influence of the doping concentration of Tb 3+ on its relative emission intensity and decay behavior was systematically investigated. The critical distance as well as the concentration‐quenching mechanism was calculated and confirmed. The as‐prepared phosphor can be excited effectively with a 370 nm light, and exhibit yellowish‐green emission with a short decay time of the order of millisecond. The above work indicates this phosphor could be a potential candidate as a yellowish‐green‐emitting phosphor for application in white‐light‐emitting diodes.
