Eu 2+ ,Mn 2+ ‐doped phosphors in the novel system Ba 1.6 Ca 0.4 P 2 O 7 were prepared by solid‐state reactions. The photoluminescence (PL) properties of Eu 2+ ,Mn 2+ in Ba 1.6 Ca 0.4 P 2 O 7 are reported and discussed. The emission spectrum of Ba 1.6 Ca 0.4 P 2 O 7 :0.04Eu 2+ consists of two distinct broad bands peaking at about 400 and 470 nm, and the excitation spectra exhibit broad band in the range of 250–400 nm. A broad yellow emission band is observed around 565 nm in a Mn 2+ single‐doped sample, and the intensity can be enhanced by codoping with Eu 2+ ions. Evidence is presented for the energy transfer from Eu 2+ to Mn 2+ in this host lattice.
