We here report using the convenient anodization method to fabricate colored porous TiO 2 films. The photonic color of the fabricated TiO 2 film originates from the Fabry–Pérot interference phenomena. By adjusting the parameters of the anodization process, TiO 2 films with different colors are obtained. The fabricated TiO 2 photonic film is mesoporous and is capable of optical sensing as illustrated by the change of its optical response upon exposure to ethanol vapor.
