Investigation on upconversion luminescence in Yb 3+ /Er 3+ ‐codoped Gd 2 SiO 5 single crystal

Yb 3+ /Er 3+ ‐codoped Gd 2 SiO 5 (Yb,Er:GSO) single crystal was grown by the Czochralski method. The upconversion properties of the crystal under 940 nm excitation were investigated. Intense emission bands centered at 521, 548, and 652 nm corresponding to the transitions 2 H 11/2 → 4 I 15/2 , 4 S 3/2 → 4 I 15/2 , and 4 F 9/2 → 4 I 15/2 of Er 3+ , respectively, were observed at room temperature. The dependence of the intensity of the Er 3+ emission on the pump power and possible upconversion mechanism were discussed and evaluated.
