In this investigation, Cr‐doped TiO 2 thin films were prepared on glass substrate with various doping concentrations to study the photocatalytic activity in UV–visible light irradiation. The Cr‐doped TiO 2 thin films were prepared by reactive magnetron sputtering using various sputtering pressures to control the Cr doping concentration. The optical property shows large red‐shift of transmittance edge and decrease of average transmittance with the increase of Cr doping. The photocatalytic activity, evaluated by the measurement of decomposition of methanol under visible and UV–visible light irradiation, increases for the low Cr doping concentration, but decreases for higher Cr doping concentrations.
