In this paper we report the characterization of metal–polymer nanocomposites prepared by a novel simple route based on Polymer Stabilized Metal Nanoparticles (PSMNPs) inter‐matrix synthesis. This route is focused on the use of functionalized polymeric membranes for the synthesis and characterization of both PSMNPs and the nanocomposite obtained. The proposed approach is illustrated by the results obtained by studying the intermatrix synthesis of Pt@Cu‐core‐shell PSMNPs of different compositions in the sulfonated poly(etherether ketone) (SPEEK). Some properties of nanocomposite membrane, such as, for example, electrical conductivity appear to depend on the thickness of Pt‐shell of Pt@Cu‐core‐shell PSMNPs. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
