BaO–Ga 2 O 3 –P 2 O 5 glasses containing small concentrations of CuO (ranging from 0 to 0.4 mol%) were prepared. A number of studies, i.e. differential scanning calorimetry, infrared, optical absorption and ESR spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility and dielectric properties (constant ( ε ′), loss (tan δ ), ac conductivity ( σ ac ) over a range of frequency and temperature), of these glasses were carried out. The analysis of the results indicates an increasing stability of the glass network when the concentration of CuO is greater than 0.2 mol% in the glass matrix. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
